Meals on Wheels Home-Delivered Meals

Home-delivered meal program clients must meet these minimum requirements:

  • 60 years or older
  • Unable to drive or leave home without assistance
  • Unable to prepare their own meals and have no one available to assist on a regular basis
  • Reside in Denton County

Certain care-givers may also be eligible for home-delivered meals.

Meals on Wheels of Denton County serves eligible clients who reside within Denton County. If you live outside our service area and need assistance, you can search for local programs by ZIP code through the Meals on Wheels Association of America at www.mowaa.org.

Meals are provided at no cost for all clients meeting eligibility requirements, and service is never approved or denied based on financial situation.

Some clients choose to make a voluntary contribution toward the cost of their meals.

Persons not meeting program eligibility requirements may enroll for self-pay service. The charge is $6.00 per meal, and clients may choose the number of lunch meals to receive each week.

The application process typically takes 2-3 weeks to complete. Once approved for the home-delivered meals, deliveries usually begin immediately. Waiting lists are possible, but infrequent.

Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10:30 am and 12:00pm.

Not at this time, but all our meals are overseen by a registered dietician to ensure that each meal is nutritionally balanced.

Yes, someone must be at the client’s home to receive the meal delivery. Our volunteers cannot leave the meal unattended outside or in a cooler, etc.

To cancel a meal, call our office at (940) 382-2224 by 10:30 am the day before delivery. For meals to be delivered on Monday, please cancel by 10:30 am on Friday.

If your city’s schools are closed due to weather, it is very likely that Meals on Wheels will not deliver that day. We also ask local news and radio stations to make a public service announcement, and post service interruption information on our social media pages. On inclement weather days, we encourage our clients to eat shelf stable or frozen meals.

No, we are unable to accept food donations.

Congregate Meals

Congregate meals are hot lunch meals served in a group setting at several community centers throughout Denton County. Click here to see our current congregate sites.

Anyone can register to enjoy lunch meals at a congregate meal site. The service is free of charge for individuals 60 or older. For folks who are younger than 60, the cost is $6.

Every congregate meal location has a site manager who can provide the application form. Once the application is complete and reviewed, the client can order meals at that location.

Transportation may be available to congregate meal sites for a small fee. Please contact our transportation office at (940) 382-1900 for more information.

No, you can eat at any of our congregate sites regardless of where you live.
